Poet Gangadhar Meher (1862-1924) is well-known as 'Prakriti-Kavi' of Odia Literature. On the occasion of his Birthday Celebration in Sravana Purnima, various functions are observed every year in Odisha.

Poet Gangadhar Meher Jayanti Celebration was jointly organised by Kalahandi Lekhak Kala Parishad, Bhawanipatna and Panchayat College, Dharmagarh on 31-8-2026 in the College premises.

As Chief Speaker, Dr. Harekrishna Meher delivered speech on various aspects of Meher Sahitya, such as Depiction of Nature, Social Significance, Close affinity between human feelings and Natural phenomena, Patriotic Sense, Love and respect for Motherland and Mother Language, Philosophical Thoughts and the like.

Dr. Meher contextually recited some verses from his English -Hindi-Sanskrit Translations of Tapasvini Mahakavya, the great classic written by Poet Gangadhar Meher.

On the dais were :
Esteemed Chief Guest Sri Pratap Kishore Mund, Honourable Guest Dr. Dasarathi Acharya, Parishad President Sri Umesh Chandra Panda, Secretary Sri Bhabanath Raiguru, Co-ordinator Odia Dept. Head Sj. Ganapati Nag. Principal I/C Sj.Nimai Charan Patra presided over the meeting.

The program was very much pleasant, motivational, beautiful and enjoyable.

Literary Discussion 'Depiction of Nature in Writings of Poet Gangadhar Meher': Akhil Bharatiya Sahitya Parishad, Jayapur, Odisha: 29-8-2026: Speaker Dr.Harekrishna Meher

A Literary Program on "Depiction of Nature in the Literary Works of Swabhavakavi Gangadhar Meher" was organised by Akhila Bharatiya Sahitya Parishad, Bikram Deva Branch, Jayapur, Odisha on 29 August 2026, Saturday at 7.30 pm on the occasion of Poet's Jayanti Celebration on Sravana Purnima, through Google Meet App Online.

Invited as Chief Speaker, Dr. Harekrishna Meher elaborately delivered speech on various aspects of Nature observed in the literary writings of Poet Gangadhar Meher. Both Bahya-Prakriti and Antah-Prakriti were discussed with contextual examples from various kavyas of the poet.

Mainly in Tapasvini Mahakavya, depictions of Beautiful Usha, Tamasa River, Bana-Lakshmi (Sylvan Beauty) of Canto-4 are very much attractive and appealing to the heart. Other cantos of Tapasvini also describe various facets of Nature with proper words filled with emotions, sentiments and aesthetic charm.

In other Kavyas such as Pranayaballari, Kichaka-badha, ArghyaThali etc. also Nature has been beautifully portrayed by the poet. Dr. Meher presented Poet's universal writings bearing social values and cultural significance; also referred to some verses regarding Poet's Philosophy of Life from his Trilingual Hindi-English-Sanskrit Versions of Tapasvini Kavya.

Hearty thanks and gratitude to Esteemed Advisor Dr. Harihar Karasudha Pattanaik, President Dr.Jugal Kishore Mishra and the Sahitya Parishad for inviting to this beautiful program. It was very much inspiring, delightful and motivational.
